Housing Options

Disability/Medical needs

If you have a serious disability or illness you will need to have a medical assessment carried out. Based on this, our Medical Assessment Service will decide on the type of housing you need and whether your need for a move is urgent. Higher priority may be awarded for medical reasons based on how serious your need to move is.

If you need adapted housing, for example because you use a wheelchair, we will place you on a waiting list for a specially adapted home.

Generally all registered applicants will bid using the Southwark Homesearch Scheme in the usual way. You will not be placed in higher than Band 2 on medical grounds alone. This only applies to Southwark Council tenants. If your relationship has broken down and you are a joint council tenant you should go to your area housing office. If you have been a joint tenant for 3 years or longer you may be eligible for re-housing under our relationship breakdown policy.
